Dr. Samuel Almeida (Lead Scientist of the Vegetation Protocol) died on April 1st, 2011. Samuel Almeida was a researcher at the Botanical Department of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. He joined the TEAM-Caxiuanã project since 2003 being responsible for litterfall and vegetation protocols. The general coordination of TEAM-Caxiuanã project should appoint a new Lead Scientist for the protocol soon.

Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:

Terrestrial Vertebrate The photographic records obtained during January-February (array 2) showed that the rainy season seems to be a propitious time for the mammalian reproduction. A couple of Puma concolor (puma) were photographed, as well as some species with babies: Myrmecophaga tridactyla (giant anteater), Cuniculus paca (paca), Puma concolor (puma) and Dasypus sp (armadillo).

Protocol Problems:

Terrestrial Vertebrates Sampling was finished in February. Two camera traps have problems. Even after cleaning, the camera traps did not return to working. All traps will be returned to Team-Manaus in April. Climate The climate protocol continues to run in version 2.0. New equipment not yet purchased. Vegetation The vegetation data were not submitted to the Team portal. Some divergences between the data 2009/2010 were found. The person responsible for data collection in the field (Dr. Liza Veiga) is working to solve this problem.

Logistical Problems:

The costs of camera traps importation was not planned in the budget. The budget was reviewed with the purpose of obtaining funds to pay for the importation. The resource reallocation was approved in March. The import process is not complete.
