Year:
2016
Quarter:
April - June
Unusual Events at the TEAM Site:

The El Nino event of 2015-2016 has strongly impacted Central Panama, causing a severe drought and exceptionally low levels of Lago Gatun, the artificial lake that surrounds Barro Colorado Island. These droughts have important effects on tree growth and phenology, including peaks and lows in fruit production. We have extended the TEAM camera trapping on BCI to capture the effects on mammals.

New Species:

None

Protocol Activities:

The processing of images from the TEAM camera trapping was completed and the data were submitted.

The climate station continued to operate, except for a short break related to the replacement of sections of the the tower, which had gotten damaged due to a tree-fall event.

Five vegetation plots were censused, the sixth remaining inaccessible to the field crew, like last year, due to the collapse of a bridge. The government of Panama does not want to repair the bridge.
