Pasoh in local media

April 22, 2015

It started with a visit by a local daily news reporter who stumbled upon information from his friends that a research station within a forest reserve exists. That fateful day on 23th January brought Mr Abnor to the Pasoh Research Station. As he was shown around and briefed on the diversity of the forest, he started writing down notes. He was more excited by the amount of research conducted in Pasoh and the support from  the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in creating environmental awareness through research. He was particularly taken by pictures of wild animals captured on TEAM camera traps. His visit resulted in an article published in Berita Harian, a local daily on 13 February 2015. A picture of a panther (Panthera pardus) prowling along a trail in Pasoh FR appeared in the article.

Following that article, more reporters got interested as the local community started asking around for more information. This resulted in two more similar articles from the Bornean dailies (on 7th and 12th March) after a group of media reporters made a visit to the station.

The articles not only helped to create awareness on the biodiversity of the Pasoh forest, but the articles also highligther the importance of research in supporting conservation efforts and Pasoh's efforts in promoting educational tourism, instead of the mainstream eco-tourism.
