We recorded for the first time in Caxiuanã the great black hawk, Urubitinga urubitinga (Family: Accipitridae). The species is a large raptor that measures about 63 centimeters in length. This hawk is a generalist, feeding on rodents, birds, fish, crabs, reptiles, and amphibians, and sometimes fruit and eggs. It occurs in all Brazil biomes and from Mexico to Argentina.
